The Paleo LifeStyle

Eat protein, veggies, and some fat with every meal.  Exercise smart.  Sleep at least 8 hours a night in a darkened room.  The only thing I would add to this prescription would be to: Stop taking yourself so seriously, laugh a lot, cry when you need to, hug more, make love more, and play until you are fall-down-tired. Stay Positive. Eat Food.  Keep it Simple.  And as always Enjoy!”
-Sarah Fragoso, Everyday Paleo

Basic guidelines we follow:
1. Food is fuel for you body.  Don’t eat as a reward or have any other relationship with food. You’re not a dog. It’s only fuel. And you only put high quality fuel in your body, it’s a Ferrari.

2. Eat food in its natural state as much as possible. No processed foods. (especially soy, corn, wheat flour and sugar)

3. Take supplements to fill in nutritional gaps left in our food supply by pollution and over farming. Your body will not let go of emergency energy (fat) unless it is getting everything it needs.  We ate clean for a long time without seeing the results that we got when we added high quality vitamins. We teamed up with AdvoCare because we did research and found them to be the safest company out there and the products actually do what they say they will. Yes, there are other companies out there that are safe and do work but we don’t have time to research them all. There are a lot of crappy companies out there too, unfortunately because there is no regulation on the supplement industry, there is a lot of scary stuff going around. Do your research and find one that works for you. We of course will point you to AdvoCare because we know its safe and are trained on the products so we can help you find products that will work for you. Quite honestly living 100% paleo is not convenient, sometimes you need convenient, supplements provide that. They also provide faster more predicable results.

4. Read food labels. On the ingredient list, if you can’t pronounce it or you don’t know what it is, don’t put it in your body. Goes back to unprocessed foods.

5. Get off the liquid crack. NO extra calories or sugar in drinks. Water, Spark and Rehydrate only. Sometimes unsweetened ice tea. You can buy the fruit kinds and brew them at home.
.
6. Get rid of your scale. You will know if its working by how your clothes fit. Use a tape measure to track progress. The scale is a liar.

7. Eat lots of healthy fats. Avocados, coconut oil, coconut milk (unsweetened), Omega3s, and olive oil.

8. Eat free-range, wild game meats and eggs. Avoid buying mass produced factory farmed meats. There’s lots of things wrong with them besides the treatment of the animals. They are filled with Omega6 fatty acids (bad) because they are feed grains. They are filled with hormones, antibiotics and chemicals that get passed into your body. Try to buy meats that are free range, grass fed, cage free, hormone free. We get our beef and eggs from a local farm, its a lot cheaper than then grocery store. Just look up on the internet places around you. Local butchers most of the time have good quality meat too. You just have to do a little research. ( We recommend that you watch Food Inc if you haven’t seen it already)

9. Cheat days! Allow yourself one cheat day a week.  Eat and/or drink whatever you want all day. And don’t feel guilty. The importance of this day is 1) You want your metabolism to be challenged once a week so it doesn’t become lazy…there’s more science behind that but that is the simplest way to describe it. 2) You’re not going to be the weirdo never eating cake at birthday parties. 3) You can do anything for 6 days. Super important that all cheats are concentrated into one day…not small cheats spread out over the week.

10. Do a cleanse every 90 days. Those cheat days clog up your system. It’s like an oil change for the body. (again with the car analogy.) AdvoCare has an awesome one that allows you function normally and to be away from the bathroom while you are doing it.

11. Everything you do has to be a sustainable lifestyle change. If you can’t do it forever don’t try it. Diets don’t work only lifestyle changes do. There are tons of different variations of paleo, we can help you find one that will work for you.

Nutrition Coaching comes as part of your membership at the CrossFit Box. We will do everything in our power to help you get the results you are looking for, we are a powerful tool for you to use.
